Welcome to the Homepage of Author Dennis Collins
As a reader I find nothing more disappointing than a story with an impossible plot. Men jumping off of a suspension bridge, falling a hundred feet and landing on a loosely packed cotton bale on the deck of a passing freighter might make great fuel for a special effects team but it sure ruins a good story for me. I like realism. If it can't happen in real life, you'll never see it in one of my books. I'm not saying that I make things easy for anybody so if you're going to take out the bad guy with one shot at six hundred yards, you'd better have the training and background for it. Sure, it's all make believe but it has to be believable. My stories are fiction, designed to entertain and evoke emotion. I try to keep them engaging, fast paced, and suitable reading for all age groups. I write in plain language that people will understand without scurrying to find a dictionary.
At this point in my career, the critics have been very kind and complimentary. Haven't had a NYT or USA Today review yet but I have sought out a few from respectable sources who've had reputations for being tough and my work has survived. One of them even claimed to have found a diamond.
I am the co-founder of a local writer's group that has helped new authors get at least nine books published. I'm also the founder of a local writing competition for all high and middle school students county wide. My group has paid out more than five thousand dollars in awards over the last six years thanks to the generosity of local civic groups and businesses.
I try to research my stories thoroughly enough to present realistic and plausible intrigue. All of my tales, though sometimes unlikely, could actually happen.
